Jos Rovers
SKU: 3012 OverviewJoseph Johannes (Jos) Rovers (Utrecht, December 15, 1893 - Amsterdam, October 7, 1976) was a Dutch sculptor, graphic artist, painter, draftsman, book cover designer, etcher, illustrator and teacher at an academy. He is the father of Anton Rovers. He trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp under the direction of Isidore Opsomer. His active period was from 1908 to 1976, in Haarlem to 1930 and in Amsterdam from 1930 to 1976. His subjects were: landscapes, nude figures, cityscapes, portraits, still lifes, winter landscapes and poster design. He was a bookbinding designer for De Spaarnestad Publishers and Printing Company in Haarlem. He was the winner of the Royal Subsidy, the St. Lucas Prize in 1939, and the silver medal of the city of Paris in 1955 at the Dutch exhibition. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam (chair 1946-1948) and of the Vereeniging Sint Lucas in Amsterdam and teacher at the Rijksakademie of visual arts in Amsterdam. (wikipedia)
