SKU: 3019 OverviewOil paint on panel. Standing woman. 40x62 cm.
Josef Santen is known for the fact that many of his works are unsigned, yet his handwriting can be recognized from many. With beautiful lines / brushstrokes he turns many paintings into works of art. His work can be found in the FRANS HALSMUSEUM in Haarlem and in various private collections. Josef Santen lived and worked in Amsterdam, then in Haarlem. He was a student of the well-known visual artist H.F. Boot. Santen mainly painted figures and portraits, but also still lifes and landscapes in an expressionist-naturalistic style. Josef Santen was a member of the Society of visual artists 'KZOD' together with Anton Heyboer, he once won the third prize of the Willink van Collenfonds Santen was a very productive painter, who started work on new paintings almost daily, but much of the work remained unfinished. The Haarlems Dagblad wrote in an obituary: 'Santen master of the unfinished'. In addition to being a painter, he was collector and patron of his then bosom friend Anton Heyboer. An interesting man about whom we will probably hear and see many more interesting things.
