David van de Kop

Early work by David van de Kop, titled 'Relief' 1968.

The work is an iron wall object of approx. 80x100cm. David J. van de Kop (The Hague, 1937 – Dreischor 1994), whose work has been shown in galleries and museum exhibitions for many years, was inspired by nature, the landscape, light and air, water and the man in it. Initially, Van de Kop made iron, angular, constructivist sculptures; fences, passages, barriers and stairs, which he called framing provisions. An iron door could rule the landscape like a menhir.

Van de Kop attended the Royal Academy of The Hague, where he was taught by Carel Visser, among others. His first sculptures were strict minimalist forms in bronze and iron. In these early works, the influence of Carel Visser was still clearly discernible. He places associations with an object, form or shape from reality in harmony with the surrounding space.
